Four Escape Serious Injury in Weston Crash

Four people narrowly escaped serious injury last week after a Bridgeport woman took her eyes off the road while driving in Weston, resulting in a three-car collision.

Shermett Bennett, 28, was driving south on Georgetown Road when she reached for something and caused her 2008 Honda Accord to drift into the oncoming lane, Weston police reported. Bennett's car then struck the driver's side of a 2009 Chevrolet Colorado headed north. The impact tore the entire rear axle from the Chevy, causing it to spin violently and destroying a stop sign before it came to rest.

The Honda then bounced off the Chevy, crashing into a 2004 Lincoln Aviator. All three operators and a passenger were transported by Weston Volunteer EMS with nonlife-threatening injuries to Norwalk Hospital.

Bennett was charged with failure to drive in the proper lane, police said.
