"Currently, our dear friend Lee is in the ICU at Yale fighting for her life," says the post by Susanna Maj and Jenny Henry at GoFundMe.com to help Lee Faiga and her family pay for her medical care.

"On Wednesday May 27th, she set out with a friend for a car ride when they lost control of the car and skidded off the road into a telephone pole, causing serious injuries to her," the post said.

"The driver has been released out of the hospital, while Lee remains in a coma in the ICU," the post said. "We have decided to help the Faiga family in paying for the medical expenses ... Any cost would greatly be aprecciated and would help the family of Lee Faiga. We keep her and her family in our thoughts and prayers and we hope you do the same."

As of 1 p.m. Monday, 580 people had donated over $37,000 after four days.

Faiga was a passenger in a Jeep driven by an unidentified 19-year-old student that failed to negotiate a curve on Knapps Highway and slammed into a utility pole, snapping it in half, last Wednesday.

The accident remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed, the Fairfield Citizen said. The Jeep was traveling at a high rate of speed as it left the high school, police told the Citizen.
