A new mobile app that allows users to plan and explore Westchester’s 50 parks and 1,800 acres of open space is now available for free download, the county said.
The Westchester County Parks Pocket Ranger app has GPS features, photo detection for discovering plant life and finding friend capabilities. It was launched by the Friends of Westchester County Parks through a $25,000 grant and with help from a partnering grant from Fujifilm.
It is an on-the-to interactive guide for park-goers, nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts, according to the county.
“I thank Fujifilm and Friends of Westchester County Parks for bringing this extremely helpful new technological tool to our park visitors and also to people from outside the region who would like to explore our first-rate park system,” Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino said in a statement. “And, thanks to the support of these two sponsoring partners, the app is free to users and there is no cost to county taxpayers.”
