FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The stretch of unseasonably warm weather has exited Fairfield County and been replaced with bitter cold.

Temperatures will drop significantly in Fairfield before the new year.

Highs will struggle to get above freezing in New Year's Eve during the day, and will drop below 20 overnight as residents gather to celebrate the new year.

Sun will remain in the forecast with chilly temperatures through Friday.

Rain and snow could threaten the area Saturday.
