Heavy Rain Falls, Flood Watch Issued As Nor'easter Blows Into Westport

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Rain could be heavy at times as a nor'easter blows into Fairfield County on Tuesday, causing a Flood Watch for the whole region and a Wind Advisory and Coastal Flood Warning for the shoreline, the National Weather Service said. 

With 1 to 2 inches of rain in the stormy forecast for Tuesday, the Flood Watch is in effect until 1 a.m. Wednesday for all of Fairfield County. A Coastal Flood Warning is also in place for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday.

With strong winds of 17 to 26 mph and gusts up to 38 mph in the forecast, a Wind Advisory is issued for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday in the southern part of Fairfield County.

The high temperature Tuesday will be in the upper 30s in northern Fairfield County and the low 40s along the coastline. The wind chill will make it feel 25 to 35 degrees as the nor'easter dumps heavy rain throughout the area.

The heavy rainfall will continue into Tuesday night, with temperatures holding steady well above freezing. Wind chills of 30 to 35 will continue with winds of 14 to 20 mph. Another quarter to a half-inch of rain could fall in the evening. 

Rain and snow showers will fall early Wednesday as temperatures drop closer to 32 degrees, becoming all rain after 9 a.m. across all of Fairfield County. New snow accumulation of less than a half-inch possible.

Temperatures will remain in the upper 30s and low 40s into the daytime with more rain likely. 

More snow showers are possible Wednesday night, with an accumulation of about an inch. Low temperatures will be in the mid-20s. 

A chance of snow showers continues until noon on Thursday, then a chance of rain showers. It will  be mostly cloudy, with a high near 38 degrees. The chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
