James B. Whipple, WWII Veteran

Norwalk resident James B. Whipple, who was raised in Wilton, died Dec. 19 of Alzheimer's disease in Norwalk Hospital. Born in Detroit on June 17, 1926, Whipple was 84.

At the age of 17, Whipple joined the Marines and saw action in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war, he was a member of the American Legion for the past 65 years with Post 86 in Wilton and Post 12 in Norwalk.

Whipple is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ida Coffele Whipple; his son, James A. Whipple; his three brothers, Fred, Andrew and John; his sister Elizabeth Kish; and many nieces and nephews. Whipple was predeceased by his brothers Joseph and Walter; and his sister Mary Eckhert.
