The publications rated public schools across the country based on graduation rate, college acceptance rate, the number of AP, IB or AICE exams taken per student and scores on those exams, and SAT or ACT scores. The list used school-reported data from the 2011-2012 school year.
“For the last two years, Newsweek and The Daily Beast have considered the nation’s high schools with a simple conceit: to find the ones that best prepare students for college,” the article says.
Weston was ranked 190th overall nationwide, and second in Connecticut overall. The only school ranked ahead of Weston was East Hartford’s Connecticut IB Academy, which is a magnet school with lottery-style enrollment. Weston also ranked in the Top 10 in all of the magazine’s metrics.
Redding’s Joel Barlow High School was not included in the rankings. For the full list, click here.
