Occupy Darien Organizer Arrested Again

DARIEN, Conn. – Occupy Darien organizer Margaret Rague was arrested again Friday in connection with what police called a disturbance last month at a Darien restaurant.

Detective Mark Cappelli said an ambulance was called to the restaurant on Dec. 14 for another patron and that while paramedics and police were on the scene, Rague started to intervene on behalf of the patron and caused a disturbance.

A warrant was issued for her arrest, and she turned herself in Friday, accompanied by her attorney. She was charged with breach of peace and interfering with an officer. While being processed she refused to be fingerprinted and was charged with refusing to be fingerprinted. She was released on a $5,000 bond and will go to court on Jan. 16.

Rague called the charges “absolutely false.” She said the ambulance was called for her fiancé, and that while the paramedics were tending to him she briefly lost consciousness due to a medical condition. She told police and responders that she did not need to be taken to a hospital and said she called her doctor to confirm this with officials.

She said that after her doctor told police that she did not need to be taken to the hospital and could take a cab home, the police strapped her to a gurney and took her to the hospital anyway. She said that an officer told her at the time that she was being arrested for “refusing medical service.”

Rague was arrested at the beginning of December for allegedly walking in the middle of the street while intoxicated and refusing to cooperate with police. She later accused police of brutality.

“It’s absolutely disgusting,” Rague said. “This is police harassment and abuse of power.”
