The agency defines a "white Christmas" as having at least 1 inch of snow on the ground on Dec. 25. Data from 1981 to 2010 says the tristate area stands a better than 50 percent chance of seeing green on Christmas.
Minnesota, Maine, Idaho and the Western mountain ranges are historically the best places to have the kind of weather people think of during the holiday season.
It is, however, important to note, that the climates normal data pulled is not a forecast nor an indication of what weather may be headed this direction. Instead, it is merely a historical analysis that suggests the probability of snow on Christmas Day.
