The store will donate 5 percent of every purchase to support the mission of Weston's Aspetuck Land Trust, according to the program’s organizers.

"Five Percent Days" are part of Whole Foods Market’s commitment to support environmental and educational causes in their community. Four times per year, each store identifies local organizations that align with Whole Foods Market’s commitment and have a strong community impact, the company said.

As part of the program, when Whole Foods Market customers stock up on grocery items, they will help support Aspetuck Land Trust’s work preserving and protecting open space in the four towns it focuses on: Westport, Weston, Fairfield and Easton.

Aspetuck Land Trust provides passive recreation and educational opportunities for people to learn about and enjoy nature while preserving the flora and fauna and rural characteristics of local communities.

It maintains 45 trailed nature preserves and other conservation-only properties on more than 1,700 acres of land. It has more than 1,000 local members who support the organization through annual memberships. For more information, visit www.aspetucklandtrust.org.

“We encourage our community members to use this opportunity to stock up”, said David Brant, executive director of the trust. “We’re very grateful for Whole Foods Market’s support and to those who come out to take advantage of this opportunity to help ALT."
