Reaction Surprises Horse Farm Whistleblower

EASTON, Conn. – Karen Rasmussen, the woman who helped launch a state investigation into Easton's Pee Wee Horse Farm, said she anticipated a lot of negative reaction once her identity as a whistleblower became public.

But within just a few hours of the story's appearance on TheDailyEaston.com, Rasmussen received nearly a dozen comments from readers supporting her decision to step forward.

“Karen, I can’t imagine how your actions could make someone your enemy. Well done,” said reader Jennifer Maxon.

“You did the right thing. This kind of animal mistreatment should not be allowed to happen anywhere! Good for you for stepping up,” NanciN wrote.

Rasmussen, a Wilton resident, is behind a video that started the state investigation that has so far resulted in the seizure of horses and filing of animal cruelty charges against Paul Vittorio, 75, owner of Pee Wee Horse Farm. Five horses were taken into state custody, three of which have been euthanized.

Rasmussen, who leased two horses from Vittorio for six months, told investigators she witnessed horrible living conditions, a lack of adequate food and water, and emaciated animals.

“She should serve as a role model for all the others who saw what was going on but looked the other way,” said reader Mike C.
