Many roads in town were still closed as of 10 p.m. Tuesday due to more than 30 fallen trees and power wires, and Metro-North trains were delayed traveling through town on the Danbury Branch due to the downed wires.

As of 10 p.m., there were still 1,919 power outages in Redding, or 49 percent of the town, according to Eversource.

The Redding Police Department warned of major storm damage across town.

"In process of evaluating damage. Don't travel. 911 for emergencies only please. Be safe - stay away from downed wires," the department said via Twitter @reddingpoliceCT.

The Police Department said it was working with Eversource to advise them of all downed wires and trees, and blocked roads. Residents with outages were reminded to report them directly to 1-800-286-2000.

Also, residents were asked to use 911 for life safety emergencies only, police said.

The blocked roads in town included Cross Highway, Route 58 and Umpawaug Road.

The town's Facebook page reported trees and wires down in multiple locations, including Diamond Hill and Route 53, and in the area of Town Hall and Redding Elementary School.

Old Stagecoach is not passable from Route 107, the town said.

Town Highway crews will coordinate tree response on local roads when wires are made safe, the tow nsaid. State roads require a state crew, and they have been notified.

State Sen. Toni Boucher posted that she called Eversourse, which is responding to 911 calls first and then working to clear roads.

"They have confirmed that power will be restored to all our area by midnight [Wednesday] as they have called in mutual aid from four neighboring states, Boucher said on Facebook.
