WESTPORT, Conn. —  Registration for the Earthplace-Mahackeno Summer Camp, a joint day camp being offered by the Westport Weston Family Y and Earthplace, is now open to past participants of either program, camp officials announced Wednesday.

New campers can begin registration on March 4.

Collaboration between these two day camp programs was spurred by the closure of the Y’s Mahackeno Outdoor Center campus for construction of the new Y facility there.

“Because we are sharing space at Earthplace this summer, our Mahackeno program will have a smaller enrollment in 2013 than it has in the past,” said Meg George, the Family Y’s youth and camp director.

“This summer we will have space for a total of just 175 campers in each weekly session. This means spots will fill fast, so we wanted to give previous campers from either program the opportunity to select the weeks that best suit their usual summer schedules.”

The nine-week camp begins June 24 and is open to campers entering first through 10th grade. Each weekly session will have a different theme featuring traditional camp activities, nature programs and field trips.

Through the collaboration, campers will experience a variety of activities, such as archery, swimming at the Y’s downtown facility, trail hikes around the Earthplace sanctuary, group games, crafts and more.

Pre- and post-camp care programs will also be available. Additionally, Earthplace will also run it’s pre-school program for kids ages 3 to 5. This program begins June 17.

Registration for the Earthplace-Mahackeno Summer Camp can be completed online at www.westporty.org or  www.earthplace.org.
