The book, "More Cool Justice" by Andy Thibault, is a compilation of the investigative reporter's columns. He said he was drawn to Detective Vern Krill's story because he was haunted by a case he was able to solve, the Redding Pilot said.

Krill investigated the rape and murder of 16-year-old Cara Quinn in 1980. Krill was able to track down Quinn's killer due in large part to forensics that reveled that the gun used ejected bullet casings to the left instead of the right, the Redding Pilot reported.

With only three guns that featured such a quirk, Krill and other authorities were able to pin the rape and murder on Martin Shifflett and bring Quinn's killer to justice, the Redding Pilot said.

"More Cool Justice" is available for purchase in paperback on Amazon.com.
