The DOT plans to “mill and fill” the 4.2-mile-long part of the highway between the New England Avenue and the Beardsley Avenue overpasses. The project includes work on the off- and on-ramps, it said.

The DOT will also be making minor repairs to bridges over Metro-North and a street in Bridgeport.

If ramps have to be closed during construction, detour routes will be provided.

Design work should be completed this December and the project itself should get under way by next summer.

The project will be funded 80 percent by the federal government and 20 percent by the state, the DOT said.

The DOT said it doesn’t plan to hold a formal public hearing on the project because of its limited nature. However, for more information, the public can contact William W. Britnell, principal engineer of highway design, by calling (860)-594-3274, or by e-mailing him at William.Britnell@ct.gov.
