A 6,500-square-foot space in the 47,000-square-foot building has been designated for the Gymnastics Center.

The current center in downtown Westport will be closed June 9. Classes will resume at regular times on June 11, and will run through to the end of the spring session on June 20. Summer Session will begin the week of June 23.

Officials at the Westport Weston Family Y announced the upcoming Gymnastics Center relocation in April, and it incorporated the help of the Norwalk YMCA and Wilton Family Y.

“Our renovations went very smoothly and the space looks great,” said Gymnastics Director Sally Silverstein. “Special thanks to Pat Costanzo, our director of properties and facilities, and to all the workers he brought in to help out. We’ve also gotten lots of support from our gymnastics families, from donations to help pay for new equipment, to the girls who spent hours cleaning and packing up all our trophies. Our gymnasts and their coaches are going to love their new home.”

A grand opening is planned at the facility on June 28.

“We are absolutely thrilled with this new space provided to us by Seligson Properties and would also like to thank the Norwalk YMCA and Wilton Family Y for their help in allowing us to make a seamless transition from our facility in downtown Westport to Norwalk,” Rob Reeves, Family Y CEO, said in a statement.

"We're also grateful for all the support we're receiving from Y gymnastic families to help us create a place where our children will be able to train on excellent equipment, with more space than the currently have, and with the outstanding instruction and inspiration that Director Sally Silverstein and her coaches have provided for nearly 30 years."

The Y’s new Gymnastic Center will serve as the temporary new home of the Gymnastics Program, which offers classes and activities for all ages and abilities, from toddlers through high school, including competitive teams for gymnasts Level 3-8 in addition to the internationally ranked Showtime Exhibition Team.

The Westport Weston Family Y will open the first stage of its modern new Y this fall. The 54,000-square-foot facility is located off Exit 41 of the Merritt Parkway. Future plans include adding a Gymnastic Center as part of a 102,000-square-foot facility after completion of all building stages.
