What’s Open/Closed In Norwalk For Christmas

NORWALK, Conn. – The following is a guide to what’s open and closed in Norwalk for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Norwalk City Hall will be open Monday, Christmas Eve, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and will be closed Tuesday, Christmas Day. City Hall will observe the same schedule next week for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

The United States Postal Service will close at noon Monday, and will re-open Dec. 26.

Most area banks will be open Monday and closed Christmas Day. Check with your individual institution.

The Norwalk and South Norwalk Libraries will be open Christmas and New Year’s Eves from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and will be closed Christmas and New Year’s Day. Both will re-open at noon Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.

The Maritime Aquarium will be open Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and will be closed Christmas Day.

There will not be any city garbage or recycling pick up on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. For residents with normal pick up on Tuesdays, their items and debris will be picked up on Dec. 29 and Jan. 5.

The Transfer Station on Crescent Street will be closed Christmas Day but re-open on Wednesday.

Norwalk concluded all yard waste and tree debris pickup and drop off for the season on Dec. 21. The city will begin that activity again April 2.

Christmas Trees will be collected at the curb during the weeks of Jan. 7 and Jan. 21 in the 4th Taxing District areas that receive city garbage collection. Plastic bags, lights, ornaments or tinsel are not permitted.

The city’s yard waste site will open for Christmas tree drop off the week of Jan. 7 through Jan. 12, and the week of Jan. 21 through Jan. 26. Hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Check with the Norwalk customer service center at (203) 854-3200 for more information.
