George A. Beno, 83, Lifelong Easton Resident

EASTON, Conn. - George Andrew Beno of Bridgeport died Saturday, Oct. 4. He was 83.

Beno was born to George Beno and Mary Pivarnik Beno Cobrda. He was a lifelong resident of Easton. He was educated in the Easton school systems, Bullard-Havens Tech. and the University of Bridgeport, where he received a mechanical engineering degree.

After graduation he served as a toolmakers apprentice at Bullard Machine Tool Co. in Bridgeport. He joined the naval reserve during high school, and was called up for two years of active duty on the Vulcan-AR-5 during the Korean conflict.

He began his career with Bridgeport Machines as a lathe operator and built his career through being an engineering draftsman, assistant to plants superintendent office, shop superintendent to Manager of Manufacturing in the two plants in Bridgeport and one in Horsham, Pa. He retired from Bridgeport Machines at the age of 62.

He was a member of the Aspetuck Lodge 142 AF&AM of Easton for over 50 years and member of the Republican Town Committee for over 25 years. He served as chairman of the Easton Fire Commission, member of Park and Recreation and other town committees. He was also a Justice of the Peace and Constable for the town of Easton,  a board member at Lawncroft Cemetery, a member of Fayerweather Yacht club, and a lifetime member at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Trumbull.

Beno is survived by his wife, Dorothy Judith Previs Beno; sister, Maryann Beno Jedow; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Gavlik, Blanche Wargo (Jack) and Ruth Bergmann; brother-in-law, Michael Previs; many nieces and nephews; and godchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Gary Andrew Beno.

Calling hours are Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Larson Funeral Home, 2496 North Ave., Bridgeport. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 406 White Plains Road, Trumbull, with burial to follow at Lawncroft Cemetery.
