Hon. Fred Hampton Lovegrove Jr., 73, State Senator For 28th District

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Hon. Fred (Ted) Hampton Lovegrove Jr. of Fairfield died Friday, April 12. He was 73.

Lovegrove was born in New York City, son of Fred Hampton Lovegrove Sr. and Edith Allen. He was a Chestnut Hill Academy graduate in 1958 and also attended Villanova. He served in the U.S. Army and had a distinguished career as a state senator. He served as a Republican in the 28th district for 16 years tenure, including a stint as deputy minority leader, he initiated and passed the Puppy Bill, to prevent the operation of puppy mills in the state.

Lovegrove is survived by his wife, Shari; daughter, Abigail; stepson, Michael Ferguson; sisters, Marcia L. Moseley of Litchfield and Abigail L. Scowcroft of Beverly Hills, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents.

Interment will be private. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
