CAPE COD, Mass. - John E. McCartney formerly of Easton, Conn., died Saturday, March 9. He was 81.
McCartney was born July 29, 1931; he was raised in Westchester County. After graduating from Lehigh University in 1953, he married Priscilla Freeman and then served two years with the Air Force Office of Special Investigation.
He worked for Avco Lycoming in Stratford as a financial manager for over 33 years. During most of that time, he and his family lived in Easton, Conn. He became a certified financial planner after retiring from Lycoming in 1989. McCartney moved to Cape Cod in 1999. Since 2000, he played in the Cape Cod Senior Softball League, representing the Cape in many tournaments in the 70, 75, and 80 age bracket travel teams.
McCartney is survived by sons John Jr., Richard, and David; daughter, Melissa Scotti; nine grandchildren; brother Alan; and longtime companion, Patricia Quinton.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, March 15 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 3055 Main St., Barnstable.
