Richard E. Johnson, 85, Of Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Richard Eugene Johnson, 85, of Bridgeport and formerly of Weston and Branford, died Saturday, Aug. 15.

He is survived by Shirley Stukins Johnson, his  wife of 63 years; his children: Jeffrey, and his wife, Ann, of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., Kaye (Johnson) Liburdi, and her husband, Ottavio, of Monroe, and Mark, and his wife, Amy, of Fairfield; six grandchildren: Matthew and Carley Johnson, Julia and Kristen Liburdi, and Jack and Henry Johnson; and his brother, David M. Johnson, and his wife, Marilyn, of Madison, Wis.

Born in Madison to Siphord and Helen Strommen Johnson, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1951 and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. 

After returning from Korea, he spent a 42-year career as a sales executive at the American Can Co./James River Corp. 

Upon retirement, he and his wife traveled extensively, and he pursued various hobbies, including bird watching and keeping up with current events. But his true passion was to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. 

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, Fairfield Center.

A memorial service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31 in the Norfield Congregational Church, 64 Norfield Road, Weston. Interment in the church's Memorial Garden will take place immediately following the service.
