Robert J. Osborn, 84, Former Weston Resident, Retired VP, Penton Media

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Robert J. Osborn, of Bridgeport, formerly of Weston, died Sunday, Dec. 29. He was 84.

Osborn was born in Fairfield, he was a Weston resident for many years prior to relocating to the Watermark in Bridgeport. His career was in sales, advertising and marketing serving as publisher and group vice president at Penton Media in business paper publishing in the fields of Architecture, Engineering, Contracting and Energy Management. He retired following a 42-year career at the company.

Osborn was a member of the Weston community. He was elected and served on the Planning and Zoning Commission for 12 years, was a member of the Weston Republican Town Committee, served as Secretary of the Jarvis Military Academy in Weston for four years, and was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church where he chaired the Annual Country Fair for 10 years. He was a member of both the Weston Gun Club and the Weston Field Club where he served terms on the boards of governors. While a resident of the Watermark, he was active in the Residents Association where he served as president.

Osborn is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Robert J. Osborn, Jr. (Brenda), Carol Richards (John) and William Osborn (Heidi); four grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, Wallace Osborn, Jr. and Richard G. Osborn.

Calling hours are Saturday, Jan. 4 from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. A memorial service celebrating Osborn's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5 at the Watermark at 3030 Park Ave.
