Dear Editor,

I am writing in support of Kim Fawcett, Connecticut state representative who is running for the 28th State Senate District after four successful terms serving as representative for Fairfield's 133rd District.

I met Kim Fawcett eight years ago when we met to discuss issues concerning our state’s children and threats to their health. At the time I served on the Advisory Board of the Mount Sinai Children’s Environmental Health Center. I was surprised at not only her heartfelt interest, but at her openness and willingness to meet with me and to find solutions. She really embodied the type of State Senator I think is good for this community and our country. She is one of a kind and a person willing to build genuine relationships, one conversation at a time.

Because of her commitment to our state’s children and their health, she successfully championed a bill banning the sale of baby bottles and children's products containing bisphenol A, a known hormone disruptor. Kim is also a leader in favor of pesticide-free schools, identifying chemicals of concern in consumer products and developing a long-term investment plan in the state's transportation infrastructure.

She is an independent leader with an eight-year track record as a state representative who fights for fiscal responsibility. She voted against the biennial 2010 and 2012 state budgets because she wanted to see more spending cuts and less borrowing. She co-sponsored the 2010 Jobs Act, a bill to help small businesses obtain loans and create jobs. As Vice Chair of the Select Committee on Children and Co-Chair of the Transportation Subcommittee for Appropriations, Kim has worked effectively to save taxpayer dollars and make key programs more efficient.

I hope everyone who is able to vote for Kim will do so knowing she is the best choice for State Senator in the upcoming elections.
