To the Editor:
In 2011 I had the distinct pleasure of interning for Fairfield State Representative Kim Fawcett at the State Capitol in Hartford. At the time, I was a senior undergraduate political science student at Sacred Heart University and was contemplating taking the plunge into public service but thought an internship would be able to tip the scales one way or the other – and did it ever! Working for and with Kim ignited in me a passion for public service and politics that I was unaware I even had in me.
When a citizen of Fairfield or any neighboring town called and needed help, there was no checking to see if that constituent was “in the district” or if that citizen’s needs were part of Representative Fawcett’s specialty, it was “this resident of Connecticut needs help with something, let’s get to work.” Kim’s drive and passion for public service is contagious and can be seen by the fervor in her work for anyone who meets her. Kim’s dedication to the citizens of Connecticut is unmatched and will make her an effective leader in the Connecticut State Senate.
The legislative process is one fraught with hurdles and red tape, but Kim Fawcett knows how to effectively legislate and get to work for the people of the State of Connecticut. As Vice Chairwoman of the Select Committee on Children Kim has advocated for policies such as easing the adoptions of children in foster care and raising awareness about the dangers of simulator guns available to children. As a lower Fairfield County representative, Kim has also successfully advocated for the rebuilding of infrastructure in Connecticut’s railways and public transportation. Kim is aware of all pertinent issues affecting her constituents and the residents of our State. She knows about all parts of our state government which allows her to work across the aisle, with different state departments and with representatives of the federal and local governments to accomplish the goals of those who elected her.
Witnessing first hand Kim’s devotion to the town she loves so much inspired me to get involved. Since 2011, I have served on the Monroe Town Council, served as Chairman of the Monroe Democratic Party, and continue to be involved in my hometown’s government and politics.
Kim Fawcett is a hard-working, conscientious, independent community leader who has been a remarkable representative for the citizens of Fairfield over the past eight years in the Connecticut House of Representatives. Seeing with my own eyes Kim hard at work for the people of Fairfield leaves not even the faintest shadow of a doubt in my mind that she will be a phenomenal State Senator. I wholeheartedly endorse Kim Fawcett for the 28th and urge the voters of Fairfield, Easton, Weston, Westport, and Newtown to cast their vote for a bright future for our State, for a person whose enthusiasm for smart, logical and fiscally responsible policy goals is only matched by a zeal and passion for her constituents’ needs and concerns, for a proven leader of our State, Kim Fawcett.
