Letter: Westport Invited To Conversation On Mental Health In Georgetown

WILTON, Conn. -- The Wilton Daily Voice accepts signed letters to the editor. Send letters to wilton@dailyvoice.com.

To the editor:

It’s been over a year since the tragedy in Newtown. One initiative launched as a result of this tragedy is the “Community Conversations on Mental Health,” which are taking place now throughout Fairfield County. A three-part conversation will begin Wednesday night, March 19, at the Gilbert and Bennett School in Georgetown and continuing on March 26 and April 2.

The Community Conversations are a national initiative, designed not only to provide the opportunity to talk about mental health, but to develop recommendations for local solutions that will build “healthy minds, healthy communities.”

Each conversation group is kept small, with six to 12 people per group, and meets up to four times over a light supper. A trained facilitator guides the discussion so that all participants can air their beliefs, participate in identifying challenges, and work toward actionable solutions.

The Community Conversations are open to any resident of Fairfield County. Whether it be anxiety, depression, or another disorder, virtually everyone knows someone who is struggling with this issue.

In Fairfield County, this initiative is being organized by the Southwest Regional Mental Health Board and the National Alliance for Mental Illness. This series is being sponsored by the Wilton, Ridgefield  and Redding League of Voters, the Southwest Regional Mental Health Board, Wilton Social Services and Ridgefield Youth Services.
