Wilton Reporter Says Goodbye

As you may already know, I have accepted a position with TheDailyStamford.com, where I will begin on Monday. While I am sad to be leaving Wilton, this is an exciting opportunity and even a homecoming, as I was born and raised in Stamford.

Over the past 10 months in Wilton, I have met many wonderful people who have been a tremendous help to me and Main Street Connect as TheDailyWilton.com launched and became your source for local news. This could not have happened without all of you.

While many have helped me, I specifically want to mention Jerry and Barbara Holdridge, who have visited TheDailyWilton.com every day since the site went live. They always, especially early on, would suggest stories and give me as much history as they could about the issues, so I knew everything I needed to know and then some.  In addition to being some of the first friendly faces I got to know in Wilton, they also had MSC Editor & Publisher Carll Tucker convinced they were related to me with the way they raved about my work and TheDailyWilton.com at the launch party last July.

I have experienced ups and downs during my time in Wilton, and fortunately the ups have outweighed the downs. There are also many experiences I will always remember.

One took place on Feb. 10, the day after Justin Bieber did not show up in Wilton. I went to Our Lady of Fatima School to cover the last day of the Tyler Ugolyn Memorial Basketball Tournament, and it seemed as if every person there sarcastically asked if the teen idol was showing up. I couldn’t help but laugh.

Another recent highlight was the Wilton Education Foundation’s “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?” fundraiser. This time I didn’t get asked about Justin Bieber, but did get stopped by about 50 people who said they knew me or remembered me from some other story and said how much they liked the site. It was really gratifying to see how many people have made it their “digital town green.”

I just want to thank everyone again and reiterate that I took the position with TheDailyStamford.com because I think it is a wonderful opportunity to continue to grow as a journalist with the same company that gave me my start. I am sure Katie Drucker, who will be starting on Monday, will do fine in Wilton and receive the same courtesy I did.
