The incident occurred when the 56-year-old Stamford resident was walking her 3-year-old chocolate Labrador in the park on the evening of Thursday, March 19.

A man walking his two bichons approached them, and the two spoke briefly. The man, a 64-year-old Greenwich resident, told the woman that his dogs were friendly, police said. He let them off their leashes, and they proceeded to charge at the woman and her dog, police said.

The bichons began to attack the lab, police said. The woman reached in and tried to separate the dogs, police said. She was bitten on her hand, suffering a puncture wound, police said. The lab suffered an injury to his right hind leg, police said.

Police spoke with both people, and the two bichons were quarantined at an animal hospital, where protocol dictates they will remain for 14 days.

No charges have been filed against the Greenwich man, but Darien's animal control officer is following up on the incident.
