Mohamed Sayed-Ahmed, 24, was charged with one count of impersonating a police officer. Bond was set at $1,000 and he will appear in court April 29.

Ahmed approached an officer outside a bar on West Avenue at about 2 a.m. Saturday to complain about being thrown out of the bar, police said. According to police reports, he said the person who had him thrown out did not work at the bar. The officer told Ahmed that he would have to take it up with the management, and that no law was being broken, police said.

Ahmed told the officer that he was a member of the New York Police Department, according to police reports. When asked to show his badge, he said he couldn't because he was outside his jurisdiction, police said. The officer told Ahmed that he should not lie about that, and asked his rank and precinct. Ahmed said he was a detective but would not provide his precinct, police said. He also  refused to provide any other form of identification.

Ahmed eventually gave the officer his New York driver's license and a Police Benevolent Association card, and said his uncle was in the NYPD. Police then took him into custody.
