Charles Covington, 36, was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana, possession of a hallucinogen, and possession with intent to sell. He was held on $50,000 bond and will appear in court July 8.

Members of the Special Services Unit were patrolling the area of 2nd Street on Sunday night when they saw a man, later identified as Covington, walking away from a parked car, police said.

When Covington spotted the officers, he walked back to his car, police said. The officers could detect the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the car, according to police reports.

The officers approached the car and its driver and asked whether there was anything illegal in the car, police said. They were told that there was some marijuana, according to police reports.

Officers began searching the car and found two small bags of marijuana, seven small baggies of heroin, a small tinfoil fold with two tabs of LSD and 59 capsules of MDMA, according to police. Covington said that the drugs were his, and he was taken into custody, according to police reports.
