Police received a report of a person with a gun at the Casa Villa restaurant on Stamford's west side, Hohn said.

When officers on patrol in the area responded, a suspect ran off down Stillwater Avenue, going behind homes. The suspect ran into a residential building at 41 Stillwater Ave., Hohn said.

The suspect would not come out and police blocked traffic and brought in special response units, including K9 teams, Hohn said.

The standoff lasted only about a half an hour and no shots were fired. The suspect was then taken to police headquarters to face charges, Hohn said.

A gun was not immediately found but police continue to search the area, Hohn said.
