Capt. John Lynch arrived at 77 Range Road on Monday morning and found Anne Murray seriously injured under her car, attempting to protect herself from her pet pit bull, according to the police report.

Lynch determined the dog was a threat to Murray, himself and neighbors and shot and killed the dog, the police report said.

Murray was taken to Norwalk Hospital, where one arm was amputated and she was treated for multiple wounds on her body, police said.

The pit bull's body will be tested for rabies at a state laboratory, police said.

Murray was reported in stable condition Tuesday at Norwalk Hospital, said Lt. Donald Wakeman.

Police were continuing to investigate the incident.
