Suspect, Bystander Hit By Taser During Norwalk Arrest

NORWALK, Conn. – A suspect and a bystander were both hit by a stun gun as Norwalk police attempted to break up a fight at a Washington Street restaurant early Friday, according to police reports.

A Norwalk police officer on patrol saw a group of men fighting inside Sono Pizza at about midnight Friday. The restaurant’s owner was attempting to separate two men who were fist-fighting in the restaurant, according to the officer’s report.

Two Norwalk officers and the restaurant owner were not able to pull the men apart to stop the fight, police said. One of the officers took out his Taser and warned the two men that he would fire if they did not stop, according to the report.

After the warnings, he fired the stun gun, police said. One prong struck one of the one of the suspects, Nicolas Almonte, 22, of Seymour, and the other prong struck the restaurant owner, who was still attempting to pull the men apart, police said. The two were touching at the time, completing the electrical circuit and shocking both men, according to the police report.

The restaurant owner declined medical attention after removing the stun gun barb, police said. Almonte was taken to Norwalk Hospital for treatment before being taken into police custody, police said. The other suspect, 21-year-old Andres Torres-Correa of Gregory Boulevard, was taken directly to Norwalk Police headquarters.

Almonte and Torres-Correa were each charged with disorderly conduct and released on $500 bonds. Both are due in court Nov. 8.

While police were responding to the incident, another man, Robert Dusconi, 21, of Bridgeport, was asked to stay out of the restaurant during the fight and got into a verbal argument with officers, according to police reports.

When the incident was over, Dusconi “shoulder-checked” an officer as they passed each other, according to the officer’s report. Dusconi was arrested and charged with an assault on a police officer. He was released after posting $5,000 bond, and is due in court Nov. 8.
