The first arrest came after police were called at 8 p.m. Wednesday by a resident of Grove Point Road. He told officers that an unknown woman, later identified as Amy Gustafson, 47, of Westport, had knocked on his door, police said. While he was speaking to her, Gustafson became agitated and hit him in the face, according to police. She then fled on foot, police said.
While officers were canvassing the neighborhood, they saw Gustafson driving by, police said. She was stopped and detained, and positively identified by the victim, police said.
Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol on her, and she failed a field sobriety test, police said. Breath tests later showed her blood alcohol content was 0.219 and 0.216, well over the legal limit, according to police.
Gustafson was charged with first-degree criminal trespass, third-degree assault and operating under the influence. She was held on $1,000 bond and given a court date of June 4.
Officers returned to Grove Point Road the next night on a report of a burglary in process, police said. The complainant told police that Gustafson had tried to enter their home. When she failed, they watched her walk over to a neighbor's home and enter that residence, according to police reports.
Knowing that the homeowner was home when Gustafson entered the residence, the complainants attempted to call the homeowner while calling the police.
Arriving officers located Gustafson inside the home, police said. The homeowner had confronted her and directed officers to her location, police said.
When officers attempted to arrest Gustafson, she struggled, police said. Officers found a very long knife under her shirt, according to police. Officers determined that she had taken the knife from the kitchen, police said. Officers also detected the odor of alcohol on her breath, police said.
Gustafson was taken into custody again and charged with second-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny, carrying a dangerous weapon and interfering with an officer. She posted $2,500 bond and will appear in court June 1.
