Krystyna Gibek, 60, of Tubbs Spring Drive in Weston would purchase items at Marshall’s or T.J. Maxx in Fairfield, police say. She would then place the tags on lower-priced items and return them for cash or store credit, according to the report. Investigators believe Gibek made 439 returns, taking a total of approximately $70,000 from the store, police say.
Gibek was arrested on a warrant at her home Thursday. Inside her house police found sewing kits, price tags and clothing labels, according to the arrest report. Officers also found signs that new labels had been sewn into the collars of various pieces of clothing, police say.
Gibek was charged with fourth-degree larceny and possession of a shoplifting device, both misdemeanors. Her bond was set at $10,000, and she is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 4.
