The total spending proposed for Easton in the 2013-14 fiscal year is more than $41.2 million. If that passes without changes it would be a 1.3 percent increase from the current year.
Of that $41.2 million, about 62 percent is slated to go toward education. The allocation to Easton Public Schools is expected to rise 1.17 percent for the 2013-14 school year, to more than $15.4 million. Another $10.1 million is allocated to Region 9, which oversees Joel Barlow High School. Easton’s share of the split budget went up about 0.17 percent year-to-year to account for rising enrollment.
One the town side, the proposed budget includes small salary increases for most town employees. Easton also saw large increases in its debt service and its cost for employee pension and health insurance for next year.
Residents at the Annual Town Budget Meeting can vote to reduce any item in the budget but cannot add funding not recommended by the Board of Finance. The finalized proposal approved by the town meeting will go to a townwide referendum May 7.
The Annual Town Budget Meeting begins at 8 p.m. at Samuel Staples Elementary School, 515 Morehouse Road. The full budget recommended by the Board of Finance is available for review at the town website.
