“This means Kie will be able to run a more viable campaign and get his message out to voters. The attorney general’s race is one of the most important ones on the ballot,” said Bob Ferguson, Weston Republican Town Committee Campaign chair.

Westby is challenging incumbent George Jepsen, a Democrat, for the post.

Westby has practiced law in Connecticut since 1979, focusing on collections, personal injury cases, real estate transactions, wills and estate planning. He also has more than 24 years in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve with Judge Advocate General certification, attaining the rank of major.

In announcing his candidacy Westby said, "This state needs a strong AG who will protect the constitution and rule of law, limit government and promote free enterprise."

Britta Lerner, chair of the Weston Republican Town Committee, said, “I welcome Mr. Westby to the race. He is a strong candidate who has fought hard for our country. Mr. Jepsen has also worked hard but when you look at Jepsen’s record, he falls far short of representing Connecticut citizens and Connecticut business. I know that Kie Westby will do better.”

Jepsen has refused invitations to debate Westby.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Foley said “Once elected, I will need a strong attorney general to help me change the direction of the state and return it to prosperity. Kie will bring a level of honesty and integrity back to this position. His knowledge of Constitutional Law and the discipline he exercises will be a great asset to my administration.”

Westby graduated with honors from Wesleyan University and earned his law degree from Cumberland Law School in Birmingham, Ala.

Westby’s wife, the Rev. Laura Westby, served as interim minister at Norfield Church from 2000 to 2002. The Westbys now live in Southbury.
