McKinney served in the Connecticut State Senate representing Easton, Fairfield, Newtown, Weston and Westport for 16 years.

He was elected minority leader of the Senate in June 2007 and was a ranking member on the General Assembly’s Housing and Legislative Management committees. He also served on the Executive Nominations Committee.

He is the son of the late U.S. Rep. Stewart B. McKinney.

John McKinney fought to preserve and protect the environment, including indoor air quality for schools; increase access to affordable housing; improve transportation, including Interstate 95 and public railways; and end homelessness, a cause that was also important to his father.

McKinney helped write and pass Jessica’s Law in 2007. The law established strict mandatory jail sentences for convicted child sex offenders and for online child predators.

The roast will be held at the Gaelic America Club, 74 Beach Road, Fairfield, from 6 to 10 p.m.

Roasters will include former State House Minority Leader Larry Cafero, state Senate Minority Leader Len Fasano, and former state Sen. Bill Aniskovich.

The Masters of Ceremonies will be state Rep. Brenda Kupchick and Fairfield Republican Town Committee (RTC) Chair James Millington.

Event tickets are $125 and can be purchased by emailing Alexa Mullady at McKinneyRoast@gmail.com. Friends and supporters can purchase advertisements in the dinner’s program; details for such purchase are at the Fairfield RTC’s website at www.fairfieldRTC.com or by calling 203-340-0109.
