Judge Orders Recount In Easton First Selectman Race

EASTON, Conn. -- A state judge ordered a recount Monday in Easton's election for a new first selectman held Nov. 5, according to a report from Patch.com.

Write-in candidate Val Buckley had filed legal action "demanding that all ballots — including those rejected by the voting machine for not having a bubble filled in — be counted," according to the Patch report.

She waged a write-in campaign against Republican candidate Adam Dunsby for the empty first selectman seat in Easton. There was no Democrat in the race. The seat was open after First Selectman Tom Herrmann decided in September not to run for re-election afterall.

"The court does believe there is sufficient reason to order a recount," Bridgeport Superior Court Judge Barbara Bellis said Monday, according to the report.

Dunsby had been declared the winner with 1,057 votes vs. 944 votes for Buckley. (Read about election night here in The Daily Voice.)

Party representatives are set to appear for a recount Tuesday afternoon, and Bellis is set to certify the results Friday morning, according to the report.
