FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Chris Murphy (D) has defeated Linda McMahon (R) in the race for Connecticut's U.S. Senate seat being vacated by the retiring Sen. Joe Lieberman, NBC reported Tuesday night.

The race was called in Murphy's favor just a half-hour after Connecticut's polls closed.

"McMahon did worse this time than she did the first time she ran," said Susan Cocco, Ridgefield's Democratic Town Committee chairwoman. Cocco added that McMahon's loss was proof that spending millions couldn't guarantee a win.

Just goes to show that the union machine in CT is more powerful and far-reaching than what $50 million and real hard work can effect. Murphy wins, and CT again loses. As someone who had Murphy for a three-term U.S. Congressman, I can tell you that hologram will rank right up there with the most unaccomplished senators. His bench will be so far back there you will need a flashlight to spot him in Washington; however, when he comes to CT he and Blumenthal will be falling over each other to get in the photo - Blumenthal will probably be wrestling for Murphy's folding podium that he keeps in his trunk for his pre-arranged "impromptu" press conferences where the camera and lights brought along will attract them both like moths to a flame. Of course, the podium prop is only used three months prior to Election Day, lest people be on to the fact that the rest of the time Murphy is unaccounted for.

Can't buy the seat after all.
