Redding Supports Obama, Splits Ticket In Senate Race

REDDING, Conn. – Redding voters supported President Barack Obama on Tuesday but split their tickets in the Senate race, supporting Democrat Chris Murphy in District 135 and Republican Linda McMahon in District 2.

Obama defeated Mitt Romney with 1,890 votes to 1,650 in District 135 and 897 to 853 in District 2. For the Senate, Murphy beat McMahon by 1,805 votes to 1,655 in District 135, but McMahon nipped Murphy in District 2, 850 to 841.

Democrat Jim Himes defeated Republican Steve Obsitnik in the U.S. House of Representatives race by 1,958 to 1,514 in District 135 and 934 to 740 in District 2.

For state representative, Redding supported the Republican incumbents, who both won re-election. District 135 voters favored John Shaban over Democrat Leon Karvelis, 1,723 to 1,630. In District 2, they supported Dan Carter over Steven DiMoura, 931 to 713.

Redding also supported state Sen. Toni Boucher’s re-election over Democrat Carolanne Curry, 910 to 752 in District 2 and 1,905 to 1,510 in District 135.
