They are Nina Daniel, who will be running for first selectman, and Dennis Tracey, who will be seeking a third term as selectman.
“Nina Daniel and Dennis Tracey represent the very best of civic commitment, giving in action, not just in word,” said Britta Lerner, chair of the Weston RTC.
“Four generations of Nina’s family have called Weston home. Nina was the most recent recipient of Weston’s prestigious Citizen of the Year Award. Dennis is a strong voice of experience, balance and reason on the Board of Selectmen (elected in 2011 and re-elected in 2013). He has deep family ties to the community as a father and parent volunteer. Mr. Tracey’s legal acumen pairs well with Ms. Daniel’s civic background. Together, they are a dedicated and experienced municipal leadership team -- they understand and respect how Weston works.”
Daniel is a member of the Board of Education and Commission on Aging and is active in numerous town organizations including Friends of the Weston Senior Center, Kiwanis and the Historical Society. She credits her 25 years of community involvement with formulating her decision to seek the office of first selectman.
"While serving on the Charter Revision Commission, the Commission on Aging and the Board of Education, I have witnessed a growing desire across the community for new leadership at the top that is collaborative, visionary and accountable for results. It would be an honor and a privilege to work with Selectman Dennis Tracey on the many challenges we as a town face,” Daniel said.
A Fulbright Scholar, graduate of Bryn Mawr College and Princeton University with 25 years of civic involvement in Weston and beyond, Daniel is the daughter of former Weston First Selectman Jim Daniel. “Over his long lifetime, my father helped shape the character of Weston as we enjoy it today,” she said.
Tracey, a partner with the law firm of Hogan Lovells in New York City, has lived in Weston with his family for 10 years. Besides serving on the Board of Selectmen since 2011, he has been a member of the Lachat Farm Town Commission, co-chair of the Charter Review Commission and chair of Legal Review Committee. He also coaches students on WHS’ Mock Trial Team. Tracey said he appreciates the RTC’s support for a third term.
“Nina and I are very grateful for the committee’s endorsement," he said. "I have been privileged to serve as selectman for two terms and I look forward to continuing to work in a non-partisan manner to serve the residents of Weston by supporting what is great about our town, including its excellent schools, while reducing our tax burden to make it more affordable for all residents.”
The endorsement by the Weston RTC is just a first step in the municipal election process. Weston Republicans will select their slate of candidates at a caucus July 21-28.
