Nina Daniel, who has also been a member of the Weston Board of Education and two Charter Revision Commissions, has deep roots in town.
"I have been privileged to serve the community where my children were educated and my father once served as First Selectman," Daniel said in a statement.
She is challenging incumbent Democrat First Selectman Gayle Weinstein in the November general election.
In Daniel's years on the school, she has "advocated for our special needs children and additional necessary staff, worked collaboratively with our police commission to enhance school security, and strengthened bonds with the community," she said.
In the past five years, while the proposed school budgets grew significantly less than the Consumer Price Index, Weston schools achieved national recognition as among the best in the state, Daniel said.
But, she said, on the Commission on Aging, she saw that senior citizens were "not getting a fair shake." She said town services were underfunded, and the Senior Center "looked shabby."
"Challenged, I founded The Friends of the Weston Senior Activities Center," Daniel said. "We launched and are helping pay for the transformation of the Senior Center in its current location, while advocating a permanent home elsewhere.
Daniel is also pushing for efforts to modernize voting in Weston by machine ballot.
Another top priority for Daniel would be to empower all residents to determine the fairest and best allocation of town resources.
"As Connecticut lags the nation, my opponent endorses the Hartford political establishment whose policies have dimmed its once bright future," Daniel said. "My undivided loyalty is to Weston remaining in control of its own destiny."
