Dr. Thomas Aquila, Jane Gray and Glenn Major were voted to the board April 14. Together, they represent nearly a century of service to the town of Weston.
“These members have contributed to the vitality and successes of the RTC for decades. Their willingness to continue to contribute and participate as life members is an honor to the entire committee and we are grateful,” said Britta Lerner, RTC chair.
The committee recently adopted a new bylaw creating life membership designation for those members residing in Weston with at least 15 years of distinguished service. Life members have no voting power but are allowed to participate in executive session discussions. In addition to meeting the service requirement, Aquila and Major, a former selectman, have served as chairs of the committee.
At 45 years of service, Gray had the longest tenure, while also serving in the role of vice chair for many years.
“What I treasure most about my past and present association with the RTC is the lasting supportive friendships. A second observation is the exceptional commitment of all parties to uphold the betterment of town government above all other considerations. To this end, the RTC recently nominated two excellent candidates for the Selectmen positions, Nina Daniels and Dennis Tracey. Hopefully, in the interests of all Westonites, some Democrats and Independents will join Republicans in supporting this highly promising slate,” Aquila said.
In addition to his years on the committee, Aquila was schools superintendent in Weston from 1961-82.
The Weston Republican Town Committee meets on the second Tuesday of every month. Members of the community are welcome to attend.
