WESTON, Conn. – The Weston Board of Selectmen has finalized its town and school budget recommendations for the 2013-14 fiscal year with slight increases.
The town’s top board voted unanimously Wednesday to recommend a $11.69 million overall town budget, which is about a 3.3 percent increase from the current budget year. It recommended a $46.193 million spending package for the next school year. That is an increase of about 1.5 percent over the current budget but $100,000 less than what the Weston schools had requested.
The district could save the $100,000 by cutting a contingency teacher, eliminating $30,000 for drug and alcohol counseling and slashing $10,000 for flat screen televisions at Weston Middle School, First Selectman Gayle Weinstein said.
The finance board will review the budget beginning on March 11 and consider changes. The finance board will vote on a final plan and send it to residents for a final vote of approval.
