Weston Voters Approve Charter Changes, Go For Hwang In Senate Race

WESTON, Conn. -- Two familiar faces and one newcomer will be representing Weston in the General Assembly, and voters also approved changes in the town Charter in voting Tuesday.

Weston is split between two Senate districts. The winners are:

In Senate District 26, Republican incumbent Toni Boucher beat challenger Democrat Philip Sharlach. This district also includes parts of New Canaan, Redding, Ridgefield, Westport and Wilton.
In the hotly contested District 28, Republican Tony Hwang topped Democrat Kim Fawcett. The district also includes parts of Fairfield, Easton, Newtown and Westport.

John Shaban, a Republican, won re-election as he ran unopposed for state representative in state House District 135. The district also includes parts of Easton and Redding.

Lisa Wexler ran unopposed and was re-elected probate judge. Democrat Laura Smit and Republican Theresa Brasco ran unopposed and won their seats as the registrar of voters in their respective parties.

Voters in Weston also approved a ballot question involving town Charter changes, according to the Weston Forum.

The Charter changes were recommended by a Charter Revision Commission and accepted by the Board of Selectmen nearly a year ago. Some of the changes are minor in wording and others deal with election of chairmen for town boards. But the changes also deal with the quorum requirement for the Annual Town Budget Meeting. A minimum of 130 people are needed for a quorum and how the voting will commence.

All results are unofficial until certified by the secretary of the state.
