Nicholas Fingelly had two offices in Southport and Westport. Brad Kimmelman who had been brokerage manager of the existing Sotheby's office in Southport, will now be overseeing both Southport offices and Marc Caldarone, manager of Sotheby's Westport office, will now run both Westport locations.
Kimmelman said the acquisition gives Sotheby's a significant quantity of valuable inventory, two majestic new offices and team of dedicated, experienced and talented sales agents. “I’ve always admired the Fingellys and the way they conducted their business,’’ Kimmelman said. “I could not be more pleased. It’s only been since August that we made the acquisition and this merger has been a perfect fit for all of us.”
Nicholas H. Fingelly Real Estate was founded by Nicholas Fingelly, who opened his first office in Fairfield in 1948. He built a legendary business and had a stellar reputation in the industry. After his passing in 1992, his daughters Cathy, Ginny and Vicky, took over leadership of the company which they ran, successfully, for many years. The acquisition brought William Pitt Sotheby’s 67 agents to Kimmelman's and Caldarone's teams and branch locations at 251 Main St. on Southport Harbor and 1265 Post Road East in Westport.
“Independent, local brokerages just can’t compete with today's large, global brands,’’ Kimmelman said. “They just don’t have the resources in terms of marketing, technology and brand awareness. Nicholas Fingelly had been affiliated with Sotheby's in the past but let it go in 2005 when William Pitt became part of the Sotheby's global network. One of the main reasons the Fingellys agreed agreed to join us was to regain the strength of the worldwide Sotheby's network and our marketing power.”
With the acquisition, William Pitt Sotheby's gained $135 million in property inventory, Kimmelman said, and his goal is to bring both businesses together to become one unified team of extraordinary sales agents. “Now they have the power of William Pitt Sotheby’s behind them,’’ Kimmelman said. “Their clients seem happy. The agents seem happy. My job is to bring them the technology, training and the tools to support them. They could not be more excited and enthusiastic having access to all we offer.”
Caldarone said Sotheby's will have a Westport Downtown office at 199 Post Road East and a Westport at Turkey Hill office, the former Fingelly location at Turkey Hill Road and Post Road.
“The Fingelly agents are true professionals,’’ Caldarone said. “They know the towns that they work in better than anyone I’ve ever seen. They are full-time, hard-core realtors.”
