Pulling out of the recession has been a challenge for many Stamford families as well as others in Fairfield County. Which is why Ceci Maher, executive director of Person-to-Person, is grateful for a grant that will help her agency offer assistance to clients in need of emergency help.
P2P has received a $17,500 grant from Near & Far Aid. The money will be used for P2Ps Emergency Assistance Program.
The Emergency Assistance Program is at the core of our service offering, providing food, clothing, financial assistance, crisis counseling and referrals to our clients, said Maher.
A number of P2P clients are new to the agency, driven to seek help for the first time, Maher said. Some are among the working poor, but some are people who, until now, have been secure financially, she said.
People in this area are facing significant challenges -- due to a medical emergency, a reduction in income or cessation of unemployment benefits, Maher said, so we appreciate the continuing commitment and support of Near & Fair Aid, which enables us to extend our services to meet the ongoing need.
Person-to-Person is a nonprofit agency established more than 40 years ago to help low-income families and individuals. In 2009, it assisted 24,780 people lower Fairfield County residents in crisis, according to the Darien-based agencys annual report.
Maher said Near & Far Aid has been one of P2Ps much-needed contributors over the years. The all-volunteer agency, based in Fairfield, provides fund-raising and grant support to organizations that share its goal of addressing the causes and effects of poverty in Fairfield County.
