A message from Tammy Marzik from the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs

Because the VA Department of Public Affairs may be affected by the present government shutdown, the CT Department of Veterans’ Affairs is asking for your assistance in informing veterans and the public about some misconceptions that have surfaced this morning.

Due to the fact that some media are reporting that compensation, pension and disability checks will be interrupted by the government shutdown we are issuing this advisory to assure that all veterans and the media are aware that the interruption of these payments is not going to happen immediately.

We have learned that should the shutdown continue through the end of October, there is concern that there may be an interruption of these benefits.  We have attached the Veterans Field Guide issued yesterday which clearly delineates which services will be affected.  It is important that Connecticut’s 52,000 veterans who use VA healthcare know that all VA medical facilities and clinics will remain fully operational, including pharmacy, inpatient/outpatient services.  Additionally the compensation and pension claims processing and payments will continue to operate.

In this ever changing environment, the CT Department of Veterans’ Affairs will continue to apprise veterans and the media of any changes in these conditions.  We ask for your assistance in distributing this information as it becomes available.
