The board is planning to update and renew the main library building -- to "transform" the existing space -- in order to better meet the current and future needs of the community.
This open house is an opportunity to see the architectural drawings, tour the library and get a first-hand look at the planned improvements.
At the Larchmont Public Library, while demand for traditional services remains strong, there is an increasing need for new technologies and services. The library's indoor space and facilities are being updated in order to meet these needs.
Lothrop and Associates, an award-winning architectural firm specializing in libraries, has drawn plans that work with the library’s existing footprint; the drawings envision a "transformation" -- designed to improve flow and enhance the current space -- rather than an expansion or full-scale renovation.
Plans include a state-of-the-art Technology Commons (with ample computers, work stations, charging docks, a laptop bar and an instruction room), a vibrant new Young Adult space, tutoring rooms and a cafe.
