Saunders Trades and Technical High School Valedictorian, Salutatorian

YONKERS, N.Y. – With the school year coming to a close, Yonkers schools are honoring some of the highest achievers in the graduating Class of 2013.

Saunders Trades and Technical High School: Valedictorian

Linette Prasad is the valedictorian of Saunders Trades and Technical High School with a weighted grade point average of 100.5.

She has taken a total of six Advanced Placement courses and is an Advanced Placement Scholar and Honor Award recipient. Prasad has participated in college-sponsored programs, including the Mercy College Math Modeling Program and the Manhattanville College STEP Program.

She is a member of the Key Club, Robotics Club, Principal’s List, Superintendent’s Honor Society and National Honor Society. She is the recipient of the Yonkers Historical Society Excellence in U.S. History Award, Miss Soccer Award, and the Skills USA Gold Medal Award.

Prasad won first place in the Architectural Open House Park Design Competition, and second place in the Residential Design Competition. She holds several leadership positions: Vice President of the Asian Club, Captain of the Varsity Soccer Team, Senior Class Treasurer, and Captain of the Quizbowl Team.

In her spare time, she volunteers with the American Red Cross, Peer Tutoring Program and her church choir. Prasad plays the piano and has an avid interest in math and physics.

She plans to major in architecture in college and has been accepted to Pace University, New York University, Manhattan College and City College.

Salutatorian

Braelyn Hendricks is the salutatorian of Saunders Trades and Technical High School, with a weighted grade point average of 97.7. She is a Century Honors student who has taken a total of three Advanced Placement courses. She participated in Manhattanville College’s Summer STEP program and is a National Honors Award recipient.

Hendricks also earned a gold medal for the Skills USA New York State Quizbowl competition and received the National Council of Negro Women Youth Leadership Award. She is a member of the Superintendent’s Honor Society and Principal’s List.

Her extracurricular activities include the Chemistry Demonstration Club, Key Club, and the Asian Club, where she held the leadership roles of Choreographer and Public Relations Officer.

Hendricks has been accepted to Macaulay Honors College, University of Pittsburgh, St. John’s University, the State University of New York at Albany, Binghamton, Buffalo, and Stony Brook and the City University of New York colleges: Baruch, Brooklyn, City, Queens, Staten Island, York, Hunter, and Lehman. She will major in Biochemistry.
